Just curious as to what that Monte hood weighs?
By way of reference the Chevelle hood is 80 lbs.
K
it weighs a lot and is difficult to handle due to its large size, compared to the second gen camaro.
difficult to weigh.
No pressure - but a suggestion for weighing these heavy bulky parts:
Set one corner on the floor and the other corner on the scale. Double whatever number you get.
Chevelle steel hood was 80 lbs; Chevelle bolt on flat fiberglass hood from US Body Source is 40 lbs; Chevelle lift off fiberglass cowl induction hood is 20 lbs.

34 kg was shown on a personal scale, i.e. about 75 lbs, not necessarily a very accurate measurement.

Per the parts books, the part number is 9874837 which was superseded by 1726325. The parts book lists the custom mirror gasket for Monte Carlo as different from the gasket for all other A-body cars (#9874835) even though the parts book lists the one part number for the mirror assembly.Finn Monte wrote:where can i find the seal that comes between the mirror and the door?
Nevertheless, I found two eBay auctions which I hope may be useful:

thanks for the tip, but they don't ship to Finland.
3d printing is probably possible. as far as I remember, the second one is one that you can get a model from.

That's simply maddening. I genuinely feel your pain on this. I live in California and when RockAuto has close-out sales, none of those parts can be shipped to California because we have a clean water act known as Prop. 65. In short, unless there's a Prop. 65 warning on the part, it cannot be shipped to California. As an example, I was in the market for a brake booster for my Monte Carlo which have been discontinued for years. When they can be found, they're $200+. RockAuto had a close-out sale for $60.00 with no core charge ; even with shipping, it would cost me less than rebuilding one myself. I enlisted the help of a friend who lives in another state and had the part shipped to him. He then shipped it to me. With both shipping charges, it was still less expensive than getting a core and rebuilding it.Finn Monte wrote:thanks for the tip, but they don't ship to Finland.
You may be able to fabricate them from something like a discarded inner fender splash guard.
If you cannot find another option, I would be willing to help you with this. You could have the gasket shipped to me then I could mail it to you. According to United States Postal Service, it may cost anywhere from $12.50-21.50 which I think is a little expensive.

That's interesting, I bought a Rock Auto closeout booster for my car a few years ago. It was a fantastic deal, I would have bought two but it showed only one available. None in stock right now.

Re: Monte Carlo -75
I wouldn't count on another one popping up on RockAuto anytime in the foreseeable future. With that knowledge, I sourced another booster core inexpensively so I now have three boosters; one in the car and two on the shelf. There's a rebuilder shop mere minutes from my house that only rebuilds brake parts (boosters, master cylinders, wheel cylinders, calipers, proportioning valves) and steering boxes. It's the kind of place where you have to bring them the part, they don't do any automotive work. They're reasonably priced and have a quick turnaround.S3TPI wrote:That's interesting, I bought a Rock Auto closeout booster for my car a few years ago. You're lucky, I have no access to a place like that. I waited years to buy that booster. None of the local stores could get one. I have two cores on hand.
I was thrilled to get one for 60 bucks with no core. Put it on and it's been working great. Fortunately, they don't seem to fail often.

You should be thankful you don't have to deal with shipping restrictions.S3TPI wrote:You're lucky, I have no access to a place like that.
One of the FEW benefits of living in the greater Los Angeles area; specialty shops that only do one thing really well. There's a radiator shop on my way to and from work that ONLY does radiators, no automotive work. Their bread and butter is commercial applications such as earth movers, large diesel generators, etc. You bring your radiator there on one day and it's ready for pick up the next. Their work is far superior to any other radiator shop I've ever been to.
