357 quench question
I am building my 357 sbc. All clearances look great. Here's my deal. The block has not been decked meaning that the piston will mostly likely be .025 down the hole right? And the head gasket I have is .041 compressed thickness. Would this mean I will get a quench of .066? Should I ditch the head gasket I have right now? Thank you-Justin

Re: 357 quench question
Absolutely. You want that quench as close to .040 that you can get. FelPro makes a head gasket for aluminum heads that is .015 compressed. Check their site for it. If you cant find it post up and I'll get the number for you from my box of goodies.
Having good quench really helps with detonation. And with aluminum heads to dissipate heat a little quicker, you can run a bit more compression .

Re: 357 quench question
What exactly has been done to the block? Is it too late to have it decked now? Not only will it get your height right but it also squares the deck surfaces and gives it a new surface for the gasket to bite into.

The block it fully machined, bored .040 over with a torque plate, align honed etc. when I bought it the guy I bought it from said he didn't get the deck decked because it is still flat and true. And he was true we measured and checked, my dad came along with me as well to. Are sure I was buying a pos.

Yes, thats the part number of what I will be using with aluminum heads. Here's the felpro link. Go to the bottom and click specifications. I'd have to recommend purchasing them from a reputable place, maybe rockauto. Since there is so much counterfeit stuff out there.

I haven't researched that yet. Maybe someone else could answer or give an opinion.

Re: 357 quench question
I used a set of those on a 327 build, put em on dry & no leaks. They have a coating on them of some kind.

Re: 357 quench question
Okay I ordered the gasket. With this I'll have .040 quench. Giving me in Total 10.1:1 compression with my aluminum heads!!!
