Rear sway and ride height.
So has anyone else experienced this before? I installed my sway bars last week and just noticed Friday before leaving for the weekend that after driving it to work on Friday that the rear of my car now sits an inch higher. I would have never thought that installing a rear sway bar would raise it up. Weird huh?

I've heard of that before. I have not driven mine but around the block and it still sits the same. I never quite understood it either other than because it sits under the control arm it is pushing up on them causing it to raise up.

Re: Rear sway and ride height.
I don't know how the sway bar could possibly raise the rear ride height. A more likely scenario is that the car had a lean to it, and now the bar is "equalizing" the ride height.

Maybe it's just that you re-tightened the control arm bolts with the rear suspension unloaded instead of waiting until it was back on the ground, then torqued them?

Good point clanceman427. I did in fact tighten them back up while it was in the air and the suspension unloaded. I'll have to crawl under it and loosen them up to see if drops it any.
How'd the ride go Damon? Handle any different?

Re: Rear sway and ride height.
If you jacked the car up at the frame IN FRONT of the rear tires, is it possible that the top of the rear spring isnt sitting in its pocket ? I've had that happen. Putting in a sway bar should not raise the rear.

Yet another thing for me to check. lol Thanks Joe! It just puzzled me and I don't hear any weird noises coming from the rear of the car, but I guess anything is possible, right?

If the shocks are correct, I don't know how the springs could come out of the pockets. Strange stuff happens though !

Re: Rear sway and ride height.
With my build, everything is brand new and when I put the car on the lift the rear springs are slightly loose that they will tilt sideways slightly. Not enough to fall out but they can unseat up top. Shocks are brand new Monroe's. I have a piece of tape on them so I can easily see if the top pigtail ends are facing the cars centerline like stated in the assembly manual.

Re: Rear sway and ride height.
Joe. Im just curious as to what can happen if the spring ends dont face the centerline? Im not sure i thought about it when i put mine in some time ago. I did not have that info at the time, so im pretty sure i just put them in however they sit. Can you tell by the lover end or is the top and bottom different?

Re: Rear sway and ride height.
I dont know what can happen or if it even matters. I've always just sat them in. But when I built my frame I noticed that the manual recommends an "orientation" for the top pig tail.
I dont recall if the bottom and tops are the same. But if you slide under there with a light you can easily see the top.

Re: Rear sway and ride height.
My single rate springs seem to be the same on both ends, so it shouldn't matter which way they go. I put the variable rate springs in with the close coils on top. I don't think it really matters for those either, but the upper pocket looks like it would support the coil better for the way variable coils work.

Yep. That's the video he did for the auction. I didn't feel anything noticeable but again it was down the street. I'll get it out this weekend and get it on the main road.
