finally runs good
Had my share of fooling with the engine ( 507 inch Caddy) in my '75 Elco. The Q-Jet carb was part of the problem, and with some mods & some new parts in it, it runs good. But then it was acting up again, and ended up being an intermittent problem with the coil in the HEI distributor. It would just quit working when it felt like it ! After that was resolved, it's been running good. Engine has ported heads, bigger valves, and a "fairly" mild cam....
Intake manifold is a ported stock type, which is what will still fit under the hood. No headers, even the stock exhaust manifolds are very tight with the front suspension, upper control arm shafts etc.
It makes tire smoke a bit too easy ! Rear end is a Currie 9-inch Ford, along with a TH400 that I built for it, and I went through a lot of work to build a 2 1/2 inch stainless exhaust system for it, with Borla Mufflers. Maybe I'll get some enjoyment out of it, finally !

I'm running a 2.50 ratio. This thing gets it's power & torque at lower RPM it seems....

Nice work Bill!
Once you get it all together, working out the last kinks seems like a bigger job that the work itself, 'cuz you just want to be enjoying it.

Re: finally runs good
Sounds like a brutal tourqe monster. I wish i could see it in Real life, and hear it too. I Think you must be pretty alone with a caddy engine in a elco. Nice

Re: finally runs good
Thanks for the good words ! I'm still playing with the ignition timing a bit. I bought one of those advance type timing lights. Not sure how good they are. !!
The exhaust note is nothing like a Chevy, and this cam doesn't make a have a lope to it like my Malibu. Almost sounds stock, but a bit loud !

What a grunt monster you have there sir. If it would move a car that probably weighed close to 6000lbs, it should make yours run very nicely.

Re: finally runs good
Yes, my old '76 Caddy weighed, according to the title, 5300 lbs. Still a heavy barge ! I may weigh my Elco, just to see many lbs I added !

Re: finally runs good
Just put "new set of rear tires" on your birthday wish list every year. Problem solved.

Yes, you may be right !! This has been a long project, like 7 1/2 years ! Body off etc.. I'm not too crazy with it, but...why have some muscle if I don't use it !
