Round Clock Delete
Every once in awhile I come across an oddity with these cars and thought I'd share the latest one I found. Now, I see clock deletes on probably 75% of the Chevelle/Malibu square instrument clusters...but, have never seen one on the round gauge clusters until I spotted this one on a '76 Malibu 4-dr. It struck me as very odd that a person would spring for the upgraded gauge pkge and not include the clock; especially, as inexpensive as clocks must have been at the time. Cluster just looks incomplete without it.

Re: Round Clock Delete
Very interesting, don't think I've ever seen a delete in a round cluster either. Strange how many quirky things went on with these cars. Clock option was probably $6, lol.

Clock is not specifically mentioned on my window sticker even though it was included.

Re: Round Clock Delete
I sold a gauge cluster a few years back that had the clock delete option. It came out of a 77 El Camino I parted out. Didn't give much thought about it at the time but its the only one I personally have come across in the last 20 years or so.

Re: Round Clock Delete
That's kinda cool. I can't say I've ever seen a clock delete either! Always something new to discover about these cars. I remember the 1 in my parents' ("my") '76 mc never worked ... LOL. When the dealer tried to fix it, it just kept making a loud tick noise ... without moving. So, as I recall, Dad had them disconnect it. Sure miss that car.

When mine quit working I replaced it with an oil pressure gage in that location.

Re: Round Clock Delete
Back in 1982 when I had my 1st 73 SS I had the round instrument panel with the idiot lights. It had a clock delete panel like the one shown so it makes sense they would use it when a vehicle order came in with out a clock.

Perfect swap, I'd say! As I recall, Dad toyed with the idea of having them remove it completely, but if I remember correctly, didn't like the given solution for what to put in its place. Not sure what that was, tho. Might have to look through the documents I have to see if it is mentioned in there ... ha.

Gauge Pack Clock Delete
I have a '76 Sprint w/ gauges....but the clock installed when I got the car is an aftermarket unit. Was wondering if there was something to it....unfortunately, I don't have my build sheet.
I'd be interested in having the delete plate and hardware if anybody still has one....

I'd like to have the delete plate as a novelty if nothing else.....already have a clock or two myself.

Re: Round Clock Delete
Factory clocks...those that fail, and those that will !! Sorta like the back window in an El Camino, specially the '78 to '87....those that leak & those that will
Also like pilots who land with the wheels UP..those who have & those who will !
My Elco & Malibu both have small gauges in the rectangular clock opening...

Re: Round Clock Delete
Would the bezel not have a hole in the clear plastic if the car had the clock delete?

Re: Round Clock Delete
Hey Joe - yes I'm pretty sure it did have a hole but it is packed away right now to verify. Probably all the bezels had holes just to simplify the manufacture. Cheers!
