Just another new guy. This time from Texas
What's going on fellas? I found this site looking for forums that were more specific toward our cars. I recently took possession of a 1977 Malibu Classic from my Dad. I'm not going to bore you with all the details, but I will say my Dad bought this car new in Dec 1976 and has never left the family. It was my first car and I probably put 100k on it in the 5 years I had it. I gave it back when I got my first pickup, but I always wanted it back. Now I have it. We swapped the original 305 for another with less miles, and stock TH350 for a 700r4 a couple of months back. It still needs some mechanical work to be road worthy, but that will happen soon enough. It does have some rust issues that will be addressed, but my plans are to get it on the road again then acquire the parts I know I need for a total restoration. I would like to do it frame off, but I really don't have the space right now. It's going to be a slow going project, but it'll get done. I wanted to share a few pics from my photobucket, but looks like I can't for about a week since I'm new. No big deal. I'll put some up later, or if the mods have a different way they prefer us to post pics, let me know. I haven't seen anything about pic posting yet.
I'm in the process of taking the front clip off to repaint inner fenders, radiator support, headlight buckets, and a few other pieces. I'll post of more as I get stuff done.
I've been lurking for a couple of weeks and there seems to be some good guys here. Thanks for letting my join and share my experience with this car I LOVE!!!

I think Bobby's just bustin' his chops. That kind of thing seems to happen around here.

HAHAHA!! That was pretty good. I kind of figured there was some sarcasm there, that's why I responded the way I did. It's only a few more days. I not too worried about the rules. It is what it is. If I'm gonna be a member here, I gotta follow the rules just like everyone else.

Re: Just another new guy. This time from Texas
Thanks for the warm welcome. g3chevy, I see you're from Spring, I used to live on the SW side of Houston. I'm out in San Angelo now. So let's see if I can post some pics.
Here's me and my Dad with the car 30 something years ago.
Here is where she sits today
I took the grill and headlights off a while back to clean up and repaint the brackets behind them. I've got to get the radiator support done before I resemble
Anyhow, enjoy these for now, I'll start a build thread later and post a couple more and update it as I do more. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Re: Just another new guy. This time from Texas
That is a sweet ride. Reminds me of my first car in high school which was a 77 Malibu in silver paint and maroon interior. Let me know if you need any parts for your 77. I just finished parting out a 76 Malibu a few months back and have quite a few good condition parts that I have listed or will be listing on ebay and craiglist. Would much rather they go to someone on the forum. Look forward to seeing more pics of your progress in the future.

Re: Just another new guy. This time from Texas
Sounds like a plan g3chevy. The only thing I'm having trouble finding in the aftermarket I know I will eventually need are the panels that go from the door frame, around the opera window, and to the back window. Mine are cracked on the back by the back window. I've thought about trying to make a set out of fiberglass, but I need some practice working with fiberglass first. My dad got a replacement front bumper and grill a few years ago, a buzzard went through the original around 20 years ago and we had replaced it with a 73 for a little bit. Had to modify the mounts some to make it work, but it did what it needed to do for a bit. If I remember, he found the replacement from a guy in Spring. I think he said the guy was converting the 77 front to a Laguna front end.

Re: Just another new guy. This time from Texas
Is this what you're looking for? I think I still have these in my storage unit but they are black and would need to be painted to match your interior obviously. But if I remember correctly they are in real good shape. I removed them from a 75 Laguna I parted out about 5 years ago.

Those are the pieces I'm looking for. Like Limey said, not in the budget right now, unless they're cheap enough haha

Re: Just another new guy. This time from Texas
The set I sold last year on ebay went for $150 for the pair to give you an idea. Haven't been to my storage yet to check out the condition on the extra pair I still have. If you're interested I can send you pics later this weekend.

Re: Just another new guy. This time from Texas
Neat story, cool that it is still in the family. My car was bought new in Houston. It lived there for a long time. Then the people moved to Vegas. It still has a inspection stick on the window.
